Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Project Manager to join a well-established, progressive manufacturer based in Bridgend, South Wales. The company have a growing product base which is supplied to various companies throughout the UK. The role is a days’ based position working Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00 with an early finish of 13:00 every Friday.

 

The Role
To manage a team of engineers in the development of specified new products required to support the organisations business plan goals for the development of current and new business areas.

To manage projects via the organisations engineering development process to deliver products through to Operations with all required documentation and training to enable Production and Customer Services to quickly and efficiently take on the manufacture and support of new products. To support the Engineering Manager in managing the NBD process to develop new ideas and business generation.
Duties will include:

  • Direct and manage project development from concept to conclusion in-line with ISO9001 requirements.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
  • Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and in conjunction with the Engineering Manager, make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and devise contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work. Implement the training needs of the project teams as the project/product develops
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.

 

The Candidate

  • With a bias towards Mechanical Engineering, the candidate must be educated to Degree level and preferably have formal project management qualifications.
  • The right candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a technical project management role, preferably in a design or manufacturing environment.
  • Candidates with a new product development background will be favoured.
  • Ideally some experience operating at a more senior level with some organisational and man management responsibilities
  • Proven experience in project management and new product introduction.
  • Demonstrable mechanical engineering proficiency.
  • Team management skills.
  • Be skilled with Microsoft Project.
  • Familiar with waterfall development methodologies
  • Manages acceptance process, including test strategy.
  • Defines the technical deployment and integration strategy.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to demonstrate flexibility regarding problem solving
  • Excellent team player, able to share information, transfer knowledge and expertise to team members
  • Aptitude to be flexible and adaptable working in a fast paced environment
  • Good communication skills, fluent in English both written and verbal
  • Generate documents, processes and procedures.
  • PC literate.
  • Good ethical principles.
  • Useful skills (Advantageous, but not essential):
  • Government grant project management exposure.
  • Electrical / mechanical / pneumatic competency.
  • General safety awareness of machines.
  • Industrial laser control / applications.
  • Commitment to professional development.
